The Architecture of Samothraki

Architecture of SamothrakiThe structure of the island such as buildings, churches, houses, streets, fountains, cisterns and threshing floors expresses the mood of old people to live harmoniously with nature. The architecture of Samothraki is characterized by the combination of disparate elements made by local unskilled workmen. For several decades, the centre of the island has been declared as a traditional settlement thanks to its buildings that are positioned side by side in a graduated arrangement. This architecture combines aesthetic and functionality giving all houses plenty of light.

Most of the houses in Samothraki are detached houses with big gardens and yards. During the summer months there are many trees and flowers in each garden that give their residents bliss, peace and dew.
